Microsoft Teams: Presence Status Stuck on ‘Out of Office’ After Vacation

1. Reset Your Teams Status

  • Open Microsoft Teams.
  • Click your profile picture (top-right).
  • Select “Reset status” or manually set it to “Available”.

2. Check Outlook Calendar for OOO Events

  • Open Outlook Calendar.
  • Look for any events marked as “Out of Office” (usually purple).
  • Either delete them or:
    • Open the event → go to “Show As” → change to “Free”.

3. Turn Off Automatic Replies (Double Check)

  • In Outlook Desktop:
    • Go to FileAutomatic Replies → ensure it’s turned off.
  • In Outlook Web:
    • Click the gear iconView all Outlook settingsMailAutomatic replies → ensure it’s off.
       

3. Reset Teams Status Message

  • In Teams, click your profile picture > Set status message.
  • Type a temporary message and click Done.
  • Wait a few minutes, then delete the message. This can force a refresh.

4. Reset Teams Installed app.

  1. Type settings in the search box, and then select the Settings app from the results.
  2. Select Apps > Installed apps, and then type Microsoft Teams in the search box.
  3. Locate the New Microsoft Teams app from the results, select the More options button (…) on the right, and then select Advanced options.
  4. In the Reset section, select Reset.
  5. Restart Teams.

5. Delete LocalCache files

  1. If Teams is still running, right-click the Teams icon on the taskbar, and then select Quit.
  2. Open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows logo key  +R.
  3. In the Run dialog box, enter the following path, and then select OK.
    %userprofile%\appdata\local\Packages\MSTeams_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Microsoft\MSTeams
  4. Delete all files and folders in the directory.
  5. Restart Teams.
