๐ฅ How to Apply a Background in Microsoft Teams
Before a Meeting
- On the Join now screen, toggle your camera On.
- Click Background filters.
- Choose a background or click + Add new to upload your own.
During a Meeting
- Click More actions (โขโขโข) on the meeting toolbar.
- Select Apply background effects.
- Choose or upload a background, then click Apply.
๐ ๏ธ Admin Configuration (Teams Premium Required)
Admins can:
- Upload up to 50 org-approved images.
- Set a default background for all users.
- Restrict users from uploading personal images.
Steps to Configure:
- Go to Teams Admin Center > Meetings > Customization Policies.
- Enable โUse background images from my organizationโ.
- Upload images in JPG/PNG format, sized between 360×360 to 3840×2160.
- Assign the customization policy to specific users.
๐ Note: These features require a Teams Premium license for each affected user.
๐ Optimal Background Size & Aspect Ratio
- Recommended size: 1920ร1080 pixels
- This ensures:
- No cutoffs or awkward spacing.
- Proper scaling across different screen sizes.
- Automatic adjustment with black bezels if needed.
๐งน Custom Background Reset on Cache Clear
Clearing the Microsoft Teams cache can reset or remove custom background settings, depending on how the cache is cleared and which folders are affected.
What Happens When You Clear the Teams Cache
- Custom backgrounds are stored locally and may be deleted if the cache is cleared.
- Location of uploaded backgrounds:
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Teams\Backgrounds\Uploads - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Backgrounds/Uploads
- Windows:
If this folder is deleted, users will need to re-upload their custom backgrounds manually.
